Privacy Policy
Bevvies | Last updated: 7 July 2026
1. Introduction
Bevvies is operated by Jacob McCullum trading as Bevvies ("we", "our", or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your personal information when you use the Bevvies mobile application ("App") and the bevvies.app website ("Website") — together, the "Services". References to the App in this policy include the Website where applicable.
By creating an account and using the Services, you agree to the collection and use of your information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information you provide directly
- Name (first and last name)
- Username
- Email address
- Date of birth (used to verify you are 18 or older)
- Profile photo (optional)
- Content you post including check-ins, ratings, reviews, photos, and challenge data
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Device location (GPS coordinates) — used to show nearby venues on the map and support the check-in experience
- Basic technical data generated when your device communicates with our servers, such as IP address and request logs
- Device information including device type, operating system version, and app version
- Cookies and similar technologies on the Website — used only to keep you signed in to your account. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies
2.3 Information from third-party services
- Google Places API — used to retrieve venue data including names, addresses, photos, and ratings
- RevenueCat — used to manage subscription purchases and verify entitlements
- Supabase — our backend database and authentication provider, which stores your account data and app content
- Google Gemini AI — used to generate venue summaries displayed in the App
- Expo — used to deliver app updates; when the App checks for updates, Expo's servers receive your IP address and basic device information
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Provide the core features of the App including venue discovery, check-ins, ratings, challenges, and social features
- Verify that you meet the minimum age requirement of 18 years
- Process subscription payments and manage your Bevvies Pro entitlement
- Personalise your experience including showing venues near your location
- Improve and develop the App
- Communicate with you about your account or the App
- Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or violation of our Terms of Service
4. Location Data
The App requests access to your device's location to show nearby venues on the map and to support the check-in feature. Location access is requested only when the App is in use (foreground access). We do not track your location in the background.
You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings. Without location access, some features including the map and check-ins may not function correctly.
5. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share your information in the following circumstances:
- With service providers who help us operate the Services, including Supabase (database and authentication), RevenueCat (subscriptions), Google (venue data and AI summaries), and Expo (app updates). These providers are bound by contractual obligations to protect your data.
- With other users of the App — your username, profile photo, check-ins, reviews, badges, and challenge activity are visible to other users as part of the social features of the App. Your real name and date of birth are never displayed to other users.
- If required by law, court order, or government authority
- In connection with a business transfer, merger, or acquisition, where user data may be transferred as part of the transaction
Some of our service providers store and process data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States. We take reasonable steps to ensure that overseas recipients handle your personal information in a manner consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. You can delete your account at any time in the App via Settings → Delete Account. Deletion takes effect immediately and removes your profile, photos, check-ins, ratings, and other personal data from our systems, except where we are required to retain information for legal or compliance purposes.
Residual copies of your data may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period after deletion before being automatically purged. You may also request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at support@bevvies.app.
7. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. This includes using Supabase's secure infrastructure, encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), and Row Level Security policies on our database.
However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your data. If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify affected users and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under the Privacy Act 1988.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If we become aware that we have collected information from a minor, we will delete that information promptly.
9. Your Rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Make a complaint about how we handle your information
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@bevvies.app. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.
10. Third-Party Links and Services
The App may contain links to third-party websites or integrate with third-party services. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you use.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, by in-app notification. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
